What should I use to clean my baby's teeth?

Starting at birth, clean your child’s gums with a soft infant toothbrush and water or a soft cloth. Once your child has teeth, a toothbrush will remove plaque bacteria that can lead to decay. Any soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head, preferably one designed specifically for infants, should be used twice a day, at bedtime and in the morning. Remember that most small children do not have the dexterity to brush their teeth effectively. You can let your children try to brush their own teeth, but you should follow up with brushing them yourself. Once they have the dexterity to write their name or tie their own shoes, they can brush their own teeth.
